Salve! (Welcome!)
Welcome to my faculty webpage.
At North Central College, I am Assistant Professor in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, and I direct the College's program in Latin and Classical Civilization. Here you will find information about the program, links of general interest for the study of Classics, and links related to my other interests.
My teaching regularly includes courses in Latin, Classical Mythology, and Greek and Roman History. In 2010, I joined colleague Dr. Wendy Koenig, of Art History, in teaching the College's first December Term course in Rome.
My research focuses on the intersections of law and rhetoric in ancient Athenian and Roman society. My most recent publications are entries on Greek oratory and related topics for Oxford's Encyclopedia of Greece and Rome. My earlier work includes a chapter on "The Parts of the Speech" in A Companion to Greek Rhetoric (Blackwell), which has just appeared in paperback. My current project is a book about Cicero's relationship to the gradual professionalization of law and oratory in Republican Rome. My CV is here.
